  • First, Press Windows + I on the keyboard shortcut to open the Settings app.
  • Now, Go to Update & Security then Troubleshoot.
  • Here locate Windows Update, click on it and then click on Run the troubleshooter.
  • This will detect and fix the problems that prevent Windows updates to download and install,
  • Restart Windows after complete the troubleshooting process, and again check for updates.

Reset Windows update components

Here is another effective way to fix most of the Windows update problems.

  • Open the Windows services console using services.msc,
  • look for the Windows Update service, right-click and select stop,
  • Press the keyboard shortcut Windows + E to open the file explorer window,
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
  • Here delete all files and folders inside the Download folder,
  • To do this use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + A to select all and press the Del key,
