Microsoft has released a new cumulative update, KB5058411 (OS Build 26100.4061) for Windows 11 24H2 and KB5058405 for Windows 11 versions 23H2 and 22H2. These are part of Microsoft’s May 2025 Patch Tuesday cycle, brings essential security patches and enhancements, addresses 36 vulnerabilities, including 3 critical and 33 important, for Windows 11 version 24H2. KB5058411 for Windows 11 version 24H2 also includes several new AI features, usability enhancements, and critical security patches.  It also brings fixes for File Explorer, Task Manager, and sleep-related BSODs. This is a mandatory update and should download and install automatically via Windows Update.  Direct download links for Windows 11 KB5058411 .msu offline installers are also available on the Microsoft Update Catalog.

The following two updates are now available for Windows 11 devices:

  • Windows 11, version 24H2: KB5058411 (OS Build 26100.4061)
  • Windows 11, version 23H2: KB5058405 (OS Build 22631.5335)
  • Windows 11, version 22H2: KB5058405 (OS Build 22621.5335)

Well, if you want to skip this particular cumulative update, you’ll need to pause it by hitting the ‘pause updates’ button for up to 7 days.

Windows 11 KB5058411 update

As part of the May 2025 Patch Tuesday update, the primary focus of Windows 11 KB5058411 is to make miscellaneous security improvements to internal OS functionality. It also offers enhanced search functionality for Copilot+ PCs, Phone link now integrates directly into the Start menu, give quicker access to phone calls, messages, and photos from their mobile devices, resolves BSODs related to sleep and kernel errors and more.

Security remains a core focus In this update, and fixes vulnerabilities in components like the Windows Kernel, TCP/IP stack, and Remote Desktop Services.

The update brings several advanced AI-powered features exclusive to Copilot+ PCs running version 24H2. One major highlight is Recall, which allows users to find and return to apps, websites, images, or documents simply by describing their content. This feature is opt-in, requires biometric authentication via Windows Hello ESS, and ensures privacy through encrypted snapshots and isolated memory processing.

Another new tool, Click to Do, lets users interact with on-screen text or graphics by pressing the Windows key + click or Windows key + Q. It highlights actionable elements and is also integrated into the updated Snipping Tool and Taskbar Search.

Another enhancement in this update is the improved Windows Search that uses semantic indexing to enable natural language queries across system files, settings, and OneDrive content. Its now extended beyond Snapdragon-based Copilot+ PCs to include AMD and Intel-powered devices as well. In Settings, you can now control which apps can suggest contextual actions by navigating to Settings > Apps > Actions.

System-wide enhancements include Narrator improvements, such as a new Speech Recap feature that allows users to view and copy previously spoken content with live transcription.

Phone Link has also been upgraded and now integrates directly into the Start menu, giving users quicker access to phone calls, messages, and photos from their mobile devices. Windows Studio Effects gets better with automatic camera framing post-launch, and the Start menu has fixed visibility and gesture issues, especially when text scaling is applied.

In terms of customization and developer support, Widgets now allow third-party developers to create widgets for both the Widgets board and Lock screen using web-based content. Additionally, EU users gain new options to customize the Lock screen weather widget.

Lastly, File Explorer has been improved with curated views on the Home page, enhanced support for text scaling in Windows 11, and better performance when working with ZIP files.

Windows Update now also displays estimated offline installation times, helping users plan their device downtime better.

This update also includes solutions for display switching issues, external GPU detection bugs, inaccurate CPU usage reporting in Hyper-V, and a series of Blue Screen of Death errors. Network connectivity after sleep, login issues with Windows Hello, and Sysprep-related installation errors have also been addressed.

It’s an important update and Microsoft recommends downloading and installing Windows 11 updates immediately on your device. The new build can be downloaded directly from Windows Update. Also, you can download the KB5058411 offline installer if you prefer.

  • Open Windows 11 settings using the Windows key + I
  • Locate Windows Update, then hit the check for updates button, and you’ll see the following patch:

  • This will start downloading Windows 11 KB5058411 update files from the Microsoft server.
  • Once done, click on Install now, and when prompted, restart your PC to apply the updates.
