Also, Microsoft makes it very easy to get Windows 10 updates through Windows update, Using the Windows update assistant Tool or the official Windows 10 media creation tool. But some users report while an upgrade to Windows 10 update installation gets stuck, windows 10 version 22H2 not installing, upgrade stuck at a black screen problem. Make sure Enough Storage Space is Available

Any Update installation will require some space to install and The update takes around 10 GB of storage space in the system partition. So first make sure there is enough space on your hard drive to complete the upgrade process of the Windows 10 update. You’d better leave 20GB or 30GB free space for the update download and installation process. If there is not, try to free your disk space. Either transfer some data to external Device or Run Disk cleanup Tool To Remove temp, junk, Recycle bin, old restore point files and free up some space. you can run disk cleanup by the following bellow.

First, on Windows 10 start menu search type Disk Cleanup and hit the enter key.  Select the System partition ( C Drive ) and click ok. Now Under Files to delete mark Temporary files (or any other file type from the list) by checking the box. Click OK and wait until the process is done. You can use third-party software like Ccleaner to clean up the junk files and free up system space with one click.

Disable Firewall and Security Software

Here follow below to disable them.

Disable  Windows firewall protection

To disable Windows firewall protection first Click on the Start button -> type Control Panel Hit enter key.  Here on Control Panel select the small icon view and choose Windows Firewall. Here on the left pane click Turn Windows Firewall on or off. And select
the two Radio buttons Turn off Windows Firewall (not recommended) As shown below image and click OK.

Once you’ve disabled the firewall protection now uninstall the Antivirus protection on the control panel -> program and features -> select and uninstall the installed antivirus or antimalware application.

Disable Defer Feature Updates

The update won’t download and install on your device if you have modified your PC setting to defer Windows 10 feature updates. You can check and fix Windows 10 version 22H2 failed installs by disabling defer feature updates

Here follow the path Settings -> Update & security -> Windows Update -> Advanced options, and then uncheck the Defer feature updates option.

Reset Windows update components

Also, the Windows Update Services And corrupted update installation files can be the culprit for this update issue. For no apparent reason, Windows Update Services may halt or perform poorly. Deleting the Update installation folder ( software distribution folder ) And Restart the Windows Update service include dependence services Mostly fix any update installation issue include Windows 10 version 22H2 not installing, update gets stuck etc. You can do this by following the steps.

Right-click on Windows 10 Start menu and select command prompt ( admin ) or you can type cmd in start menu search right click on command prompt from search results and select run as administrator. Here on the Command prompt Type below commands.

Stop Windows Services
  • First type net stop wuauserv to stop the Windows update service.
  • Next, type net stop cryptSvc to stop the Cryptographic service.
  • Now type net stop bits to stop background intelligent transfer service
  • And Type net stop dosvc To Stop the Delivery Optimization Service
  • Last type net stop msiserver to stop the Windows installer service
  • Delete or rename update cache folders

Now Go to C: > Windows > SoftwareDistribution > DataStore ,  C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 and to C: > Windows > Software Distribution > Downloads Delete all the files inside the folder.

It may ask you for administrator permission. Give it. Don’t worry. There’s nothing vital here. Windows Update will recreate what it needs the next time you run it.

Note: If you don’t want to delete them you can rename them by using command open the command prompt and follow below.

first type ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old To rename the SoftwareDistribution folder

Next type ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old To rename the Catroot2 folder

Last ren C: > Windows > SoftwareDistribution > DataStore DataStore.old To rename the DataStore folder

Restart the Windows services

Now To Start the stopped services move to the command prompt and type below commands

  • First type net start wuauserv to start the Windows update service.
  • Next type net start cryptSvc to start the Cryptographic service.
  • Now type net start bits to start the background intelligent transfer service
  • And Type net start dosvc To start the Delivery Optimization Service
  • Last type net start msiserver to start the Windows installer service
  • If you performed these steps but to no avail, try out additional steps.

That’s All Now Restart windows And check for Windows updates to install. Try upgrade to Windows 10 may Update.

Run DISM Tool And SFC Utility

Sometimes corrupted system files can cause stuck update installation, Include Windows 10 22H2 update not installing error. Windows Have an In build Troubleshooting tool called DISM (Deployment Image & Servicing Management) which help you fix some Windows corruption errors. To run this Tool First open Command prompt As administrator And type Bellow command And hit the enter key.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

After 100% complete the scanning process Restart your computer.

Note: Running this command, DISM uses Windows Update to provide the files that are required to fix corruptions. While if your Windows Update client is already broken, try using a Windows side-by-side folder from a network share or from a removable media, such as the Windows DVD as the repair source. To do so, run the following command.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:\RepairSource\Windows /LimitAccess

Now Run the sfc utility to repair and replace corrupt system files. To do this Again Open Command prompt As an administrator and type bellow command hit the enter key to execute.

sfc /scannow

Wait until complete the 100 % scanning process. After that restart windows and try to install an upgrade to Windows 10 version 22H2.

Use Windows Update Assistant And Media Creation Tool

Besides the standard installation through over-the-air Windows Update, you can obtain to the Windows 10 22H2 Update through the update assistant or use the official windows 10 Media Creation tool, as well. This may take a bit more effort but it proved as a more reliable way on many occasions.

Perform Windows 10 Clean Reinstall
