If you use an iPhone or iPad but also have a Windows 11 PC, you don’t need to keep switching between devices to access your iCloud data. iCloud for Windows lets you access iCloud Photos, iCloud Drive, passwords, bookmarks, and other information directly from your Windows computer. Apple currently distributes iCloud for Windows through the Microsoft Store. For the latest version, Apple recommends an up-to-date Windows 11 PC, and some features have additional requirements such as Outlook 2021 or later.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to set up iCloud on Windows 11, sign in with your Apple Account, choose the iCloud features you want to sync, and access your photos, files, passwords, and other data from your PC.
What Is iCloud for Windows?
iCloud for Windows is Apple’s app for accessing and syncing your iCloud information on a Windows PC. After signing in with your Apple Account, you can choose which iCloud features you want to use on your computer.
Depending on the features you enable, iCloud for Windows can give you access to:
- iCloud Photos — View and manage photos and videos from your Apple devices.
- iCloud Drive — Access files stored in iCloud directly from File Explorer.
- Passwords — Access saved iCloud Passwords on Windows with the required browser extension.
- Bookmarks — Keep Safari bookmarks available in supported Windows browsers.
- Contacts and Calendars — Access and sync iCloud information with supported Microsoft apps.
You don’t have to enable every feature. During setup, you can choose the iCloud services you actually need and change these settings later.
Quick Insight: iCloud for Windows is mainly designed to keep selected iCloud data available across your Apple devices and Windows PC. It doesn’t turn Windows into an Apple device or provide every iCloud feature available on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
1. Install iCloud for Windows
The first step is to install Apple’s iCloud for Windows app on your Windows 11 PC. Apple distributes the current version through the Microsoft Store, so you don’t need to download an installer from an unofficial website.
- Open the Microsoft Store on Windows 11.
- Search for iCloud.
- Select iCloud from Apple.
- Click Get or Install.
- Wait for the installation to finish.
- Open iCloud from the Start menu.

Before installing, make sure Windows 11 is up to date and that you have enough free storage for any iCloud content you plan to download or sync.
Quick Insight: Always install iCloud for Windows from the Microsoft Store. This ensures you get the official Apple app and its updates through the supported Windows distribution channel.
2. Sign In to iCloud on Windows 11
After installing iCloud for Windows, open the app and sign in with the same Apple Account you use on your iPhone, iPad, or other Apple devices.
- Open iCloud from the Windows 11 Start menu.
- Enter your Apple Account email address or phone number.
- Enter your password.
- If Apple asks for a verification code, check your trusted Apple device or trusted phone number.
- Enter the verification code to complete sign-in.
- Review the iCloud features available on your PC.

Once you’re signed in, iCloud for Windows will show the services you can enable. You can select only the features you want to sync instead of enabling everything.
Quick Insight: Use the same Apple Account that contains the photos, files, passwords, or other iCloud data you want to access on your Windows 11 PC.
3. Choose the iCloud Features You Want to Use
After signing in, iCloud for Windows lets you choose which services you want to use on your PC. You don’t need to enable everything.
Depending on your account and setup, you may see options such as:
- iCloud Drive — Access your iCloud files through File Explorer.
- Photos — View and manage iCloud Photos from Windows.
- Passwords — Use saved iCloud passwords on Windows with the required browser extension.
- Bookmarks — Sync Safari bookmarks with supported Windows browsers.
- Contacts and Calendars — Sync supported iCloud information with Microsoft apps.

Select the features you need and click Apply or follow the on-screen instructions to finish setting them up.
You can return to the iCloud app later to change which services are enabled.
Quick Insight: If you mainly want to transfer or access iPhone photos and files on your PC, you can enable Photos and iCloud Drive without turning on every available iCloud feature.
4. Set Up iCloud Photos on Windows 11
If you want to access photos and videos from your iPhone or iPad on your Windows PC, enable Photos in iCloud for Windows. Your iCloud Photos library can then appear in File Explorer.
- Open iCloud for Windows.
- Select Photos.
- Click Done or follow the prompts to enable the feature.
- Open File Explorer.
- Select iCloud Photos from the navigation pane.
- Browse your available photos and videos.
iCloud Photos uses synchronization rather than simply creating a one-time copy of your entire iPhone photo library. Changes made to your iCloud Photos library can therefore be reflected across devices using iCloud Photos.
If you want to keep a local copy of a particular photo or video on the PC, download it from the iCloud Photos folder.
5. Set Up iCloud Drive on Windows 11
iCloud Drive lets you access files stored in iCloud directly from Windows 11. After enabling it, iCloud creates an iCloud Drive location in File Explorer so you can work with your files from the PC.
- Open iCloud for Windows.
- Select iCloud Drive.
- Click Apply or follow the on-screen instructions.
- Open File Explorer.
- Select iCloud Drive from the left navigation pane.
- Browse your folders and files.

You can open supported files, organize folders, and move files within iCloud Drive from Windows. Depending on the file and your iCloud settings, some content may need to be downloaded before you can use it offline.
Quick Insight: iCloud Drive is designed to sync files between your Apple devices and your Windows PC. If you need a permanent offline copy, make sure the files are actually downloaded to the PC rather than relying only on cloud storage.
6. Set Up iCloud Passwords on Windows 11
If you save passwords in iCloud Keychain on your iPhone or other Apple devices, iCloud Passwords lets you access those credentials on Windows. Apple provides an iCloud Passwords app and browser extensions for supported browsers.
- Open iCloud for Windows.
- Select Passwords and enable the feature.
- Follow the prompts to set up iCloud Passwords.
- Install the iCloud Passwords extension for your supported browser when prompted.
- Sign in or authenticate when required.
- Open a website where you have a saved password to test the setup.
You may need to approve access using your Windows sign-in method or another verification step before saved passwords can be accessed.
Quick Insight: Keep iCloud Passwords enabled only on Windows PCs you trust. If you’re using a shared or public computer, avoid enabling password syncing there.
7. Sync iCloud Bookmarks with Windows 11
If you use Safari on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, you can use iCloud to keep your bookmarks available in supported Windows browsers.
- Open iCloud for Windows.
- Select Bookmarks.
- Choose the browser you want to use when prompted.
- Install the required browser extension if iCloud asks you to do so.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
- Open your browser and check whether your iCloud bookmarks are available.
The exact browser options can depend on the version of iCloud for Windows and the browser installed on your PC.
Quick Insight: Bookmark syncing is useful if you regularly switch between Apple devices and a Windows PC, but make sure you understand which browser’s bookmarks are being synchronized before enabling the feature.
8. Set Up iCloud Contacts and Calendars
If you want your iCloud contacts and calendars available on your Windows 11 PC, iCloud for Windows can work with supported Microsoft apps. The exact options depend on your installed version of Outlook and the iCloud app.
- Open iCloud for Windows.
- Select Contacts and Calendars if the option is available.
- Follow the prompts to connect iCloud with Outlook.
- Open Outlook and check your iCloud contacts and calendars.
- Create a test calendar event or contact to confirm that synchronization is working as expected.
Apple recommends Outlook 2021 or later for iCloud features that integrate with Outlook on Windows. (Apple Support)
If you don’t see the Contacts and Calendars option, check that you’re using a supported version of Outlook and the latest version of iCloud for Windows.
Quick Insight: iCloud doesn’t replace Outlook. It allows supported iCloud data to be integrated with compatible Microsoft apps, so you can access it on Windows.
9. Check That iCloud Is Syncing Correctly
After enabling the features you need, test iCloud before relying on it for everyday access. This helps identify sign-in, synchronization, or account issues early.
- Open iCloud Drive in File Explorer and check that your files appear.
- Open iCloud Photos and confirm that your photos and videos are available.
- If you enabled passwords or bookmarks, test them in your supported browser.
- If you enabled Contacts and Calendars, check them in Outlook.
- Make a small test change on one device and check whether it appears on the Windows PC after synchronization.
If something doesn’t appear immediately, give iCloud some time to synchronize and make sure the PC has an active internet connection.
Quick Insight: iCloud synchronization depends on the same Apple Account being used across your devices. If only some content is missing, check whether that particular iCloud feature is enabled on both devices.
10. If iCloud Is Not Syncing on Windows 11
If iCloud installs correctly but your photos, files, passwords, or bookmarks don’t appear, check the basics before reinstalling the app.
- Make sure Windows 11 is connected to the internet.
- Open iCloud for Windows and confirm you’re signed in with the correct Apple Account.
- Check that the affected iCloud feature is enabled.
- Close and reopen iCloud for Windows.
- Restart your Windows 11 PC.
- Check for updates for iCloud and Windows.
- If the problem continues, sign out of iCloud for Windows and sign in again.
For a specific feature, also check whether it is enabled on your iPhone, iPad, or other Apple device.
Quick Insight: If iCloud Drive works but Photos doesn’t, there’s usually no need to reinstall iCloud. Check the Photos setting separately because each iCloud service can be enabled or disabled independently.
