Technology has presented us with everything and satisfied our requirements. The people who contributed to this journey the most now have become the Shoulders of the Tech Community. Though they have failed many times, their passion for changing the world through technology has never stopped. They moved technology inevitably forward. They have not only changed technology, but they have also molded the way technology is marketed or entirely reconstructed the process IT is observed by society. They have been involved in great leaps ahead and made incremental changes that we have achieved.

It is our honor to present you with the top 10 tech guru and their success stories.

He was serially the co-founder, chairman and CEO of Apple Inc.; CEO of Pixar Animation Studios, a member of Walt Disney’s board of directors and founder, chairman, and CEO of NeXT Inc. Adopted at birth in San Francisco, he was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area during the 1960s. Despite his immense intelligence, he had no interest in schooling, except for a few select classes. Jobs even left college after his first year. He was much more interested in phones, and computers, creating innovative business ideas and working on inventing new pieces of machinery alongside his close friend Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple.

Jobs, with his high school friend Wozniak, created computers in his garage, which resulted in building the Apple 1. After convincing Wozniak, in 1976, Jobs co-founded Apple to market the product. After Apple 1, their introduced their second machine, the Apple II in the following year and became a huge success. From the computers’ heavy sales throughout the state and later the rest of the country, soon Jobs became a millionaire.

In 1983, Jobs, being inspired by Xerox Alto, Apple launched the Apple Lisa, the first PC with a graphical user interface (GUI). This interface helps users to use electronic devices through graphical icons and visual indicators. The introductory price of Lisa was US $9,995 (1983). It flopped because of its high price, but to get back the attention, the following year Apple launched Apple Macintosh with an introductory price of US $2,495, which became the first mass-produced computer with a GUI. In 1985, Jobs was ousted from the company he founded by the boardroom.

After leaving Apple, Jobs moved on and founded NeXT Computer in 1986, which specialized in high-end workstations for the business community. He bought The Graphics Group from Lucas film, which was renamed to Pixar. After struggling and bleeding money for a few years, Pixar had a fabulous hit with the movie Toy Story (1997). Without Jobs, Apple had fallen along with the market share. In 1997, when Apple was on the verge of bankruptcy, Apple purchased NeXT, allowing Jobs to become the CEO once again to bring him to Apple. After returning to Apple, and working with designer Jonathan Ive, Jobs developed a series of products that changed the Tech world enormously. iPod, iPad, and iPhone are the most innovative products. Mac OS was also revised into Mac OS X, based on NeXT’s NeXTSTEP platform. Changing deeply the way of computing, animated movies, digital publishing, music, phones, and tablet, he died on October 5, 2011, due to Pancreatic cancer.

In 1967, he first used a computer and in 1968, at the age of 13, he started programming with Paul Allen in the computer center. Gates and Paul Allen with some of their schoolmates started programming and bug fixing for Computer Center Corporation, and they formed a company of their own, called Traf-O-Data, to measure traffic flow using the Intel 8008 processor. However, the era of Traf-O-Data was at the end when Gates left for Harvard University.

In 1973, Gates enrolled at Harvard University, and he met his future business partner Steve Ballmer. One year after leaving Harvard, Gates, with Allen found “Micro-Soft”, which later became Microsoft Corporation. Microsoft started with a vision of “A computer on every desk and Microsoft software on every computer”. In 1985, Windows 1.0 launched. In 2006, Bill helped Terra Power company which aims to provide a more reliable, environmentally friendly and affordable form of nuclear energy to all. Tim Berners-Lee, the man who just took his imagination a step further by Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and connected the whole world. Thus, the worldwide web was born. The imagination of his has made all the people of 21st century thankful to him.

Both Berners-Lee’s parents were on the team that built the Manchester Mark I, one of the earliest computers. While studying at Oxford, he built a computer with just a soldering iron, TTL gates, an M6800 processor and an old television. There he was also caught hacking with a friend and afterward was banned from using the computers of the university.

In December 1980, at Cern, Berners-Lee proposed a project based on his hypertext concept, but only share and update information among researchers and created a prototype called Enquire. Cern was the largest internet junction in Europe, and Berners-Lee saw an opportunity and took his hypertext idea and connected it to the TCP and DNS ideas and created the worldwide web. He then developed the first web browser and editor, called World-wide Web, on NeXTSTEP and the web server, which was the first one ever called Hypertext Transfer Protocol Daemon (HTTPD).

On 6 August 1991, the first built website was put online at http://info.cern.ch/, which is still in use today. It provides a description of the worldwide web, web browser and information to set up a web server. The unique idea of his is available for all. He is now the director of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), founded by him in 1994.

In the early 1990s, Gosling started a project code-named Green that finally became Java. Many parts of Green never saw the light of day. However, he found out that many of Green’s principles could be useful in the age of the internet. After Gosling’s hard work, Java was published in 1995.
