The latest Chrome 143 update addresses 13 security vulnerabilities, including four high-severity flaws. The most notable among them is CVE-2025-13630, a critical type confusion flaw in the V8 JavaScript engine that could allow remote code execution via a specially crafted website. Along with these critical patches, Chrome 143 introduces several new features, such as the Read Aloud tool, which lets users listen to webpage content with customizable voice and speed options, and an expanded AI Mode that enhances text summarization, explanation, and on-page assistance. Developers also benefit from improvements across WebGPU, updated APIs, and improved Unicode support. This release further resolves multiple stability issues and underlying performance bugs, ensuring a smoother, safer, and more reliable browsing experience overall.

What’s New in Chrome 143 Update?

Although this version doesn’t introduce significant UI changes, it brings several behind-the-scenes upgrades, developer features, and enterprise-focused policies, making it a crucial update for a safe, seamless browsing experience.

Smarter AI Integration Across Chrome

Chrome 143 expands Google’s push into AI-powered browsing. You’ll now see an AI Mode integrated directly into the New Tab Page and even inside the address bar (omnibox). This makes it easier to ask questions, reword content, or get suggestions without opening a separate AI tool.

New “Read Aloud” Mode

One of the most useful additions in Chrome 143 is the new Read Aloud feature. You can now open any webpage in Reading Mode and have Chrome read the content aloud to you.

Chrome 143 adds a new “Read Aloud” feature accessible through reading mode, allow users to listen to web content with options for voice speed, selection, and highlighting. This feature is initially available for Windows and Mac users in the US who use English as their default language.

From a developer perspective, Chrome 143 introduces several new CSS features, including @container anchored(fallback) for styling elements based on fallback positioning, side-relative positioning for background image properties, and support for the font-language-override CSS property to enable fine-grained typographic control.

The Unicode support library ICU has been upgraded to version 77.1, adding support for Unicode 16, which may affect date and number formatting in some locales.

Additionally, the HTML parser now aligns with JavaScript DOM APIs in validating element and attribute names, and input events now include dataTransfer for insertFromPaste, insertFromDrop, and insertReplacementText types in contenteditable elements.

Enterprise and education users receive new management features, including dynamic recommendations in the Admin console, enterprise-managed shortcuts on the New Tab page, profile reporting for Chrome on iOS, and updated policies for client certificates on Android and origin-bound cookies.

The update also includes experimental cryptographic compliance policies, support for X25519Kyber768 key encapsulation for TLS, and enhanced security with on-device scam detection on Android.

Additionally, Google has patched  13 security vulnerabilities, including four high-severity flaws, such as a type confusion issue in the JavaScript V8 engine (CVE-2025-13630), with no known exploitation in the wild as of the release.
